I've been taking a break from DA for a while. A little too long, actually, since I've been busy with a full time job and grad school 2.0. Yes, I have finally returned to grad school after a two-year long battle with depression, and this time, I believe I will succeed and get that Master's degree I've been pursuing for far too long. I'm only going to school part time, as I have a full time job that takes up most of my life now. (I guess if you listen to Huey Lewis & The News's "Hip to be Square", the lyrics pretty much sum up what's been going on in my life ^^; )

In the meantime, I've been spending most of my internetz time on Tumblr (my blog here) and dallying around in other fandoms (mostly Attack on Titan and Game of Thrones...yes, we're getting into the nitty-gritty, nobody-is-safe, everybody-dies universes that I would normally have avoided ten years ago).

I'll only be stopping by every once in a while to clean out my inbox and respond to comments/notes/whatever else. I'll probably be moving some new fics over here too. I have an AO3 account, where I've been posting my newer stuff...none of the Star Trek or Cthulhu ones, but I'm thinking of copy-pasting those over into my AO3 account too. Just want to consolidate everything into one place at least.

Well, that's it for now. Hopefully I'll be more active around here in the future. Just need to find the time to squeeze in a few minutes is all. ;)

I swiped this from :iconmoodybeatlegirl:

You must posts these rules.
- Each person has to share 10 things about them.
- Answer the 10 questions asked to you and invent 10 questions the people you tag will have to answer.
- Choose 10 people and put their icons on your journal.
- Make sure they know they are tagged. Not something like "you are tagged if you read this".
- You have to legitimately tag 10 people.
- No tag-backs.
- You can't say that you don't do tags.

1. I love dogs, though I don't own one myself.
2. Irish music is my favorite thing to listen to if I want to relax.
3. I'm a Trekkie.
4. I've been out of the country three times.
5. I love spicy food.
6. I've had an on-and-off relationship with anime over the years. This year's squeeze is called 'Attack on Titan' (very gory, disturbing and PTSD-heavy...not for the faint of heart).
7. I like reading horror stories, but I do not like watching horror movies/TV. I don't know why.
8. I seem to have taken a liking to MMORPG video games. Moderation is key...
9. I need to get back into writing my fics so I can finish them. I have so many that are unfinished, and many more that are sitting in development hell.
10. I am finally returning to school. After a long battle with depression that had destroyed my academic career and nearly consumed me, I've finally beaten it and I've just received my first acceptance letter from my school of choice. :w00t:

:iconmoodybeatlegirl:'s questions:

1. Do you have a favorite rock/stone/crystal? what is it?
Malachite. It's a very deep green, sometimes greenish-teal. Very pretty. :)

2. Place you most want to visit:
New Zealand!

3. Do you think grammar is LAW or just relative?
Well, considering how English was spoken five hundred years ago, I'd say it's relative.

4. If you could have one animal, ANY animal, as a pet, what would it be?
A wolf!

5. Favorite 80s band?
Genesis.

6. Favorite Beatle? (don't have one? Favorite song of this year SO FAR!)
It would have to be the late great George Harrison. Some of his songs are among my favorite Beatles tunes.

7. What kind of kid are/were you in high school?
I was a band geek. Music was my life. :music:

8. Current fictional character crush???
Garak from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. ^^;

9. Do you read fanfiction? If so, what is the worst story you've ever stumbled upon? For what fandom?
To be honest, I read very little fanfiction for that very purpose. Too big a risk to stumble upon smut. :shifty:

10. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
European or African? :giggle:

My questions:
1. Science Fiction or Fantasy? If neither, what genre do you like to read/watch?
2. Do you scare easily?
3. If you could speak another language besides your native tongue, what would it be?
4. If you were in charge of painting your own house, what color would you paint your room?
5. If you could learn any musical instrument, what would it be?
6. Is your current hair color your natural hair color, or did you dye it? What color is it?
7. Write your favorite opening lyrics to any song you've heard. (And name the artist and song title.)
8. Pick your favorite character from a TV show or movie. If they had an online account on any website, what would their username and password be?
9. If you were given the chance to play a prank on somebody, would you do it?
10. Is there something you should be doing right now?

I'd tag people, but I'm lazy and it's getting late. Just swipe it.

Whoa nelly

Post-college adulthood has hit me full force over the past two weeks. I've moved back in with my parents for the time being, and I'm working a temporary full-time job until I land one that's not temporary. I'm planning on starting school again in the summer at a different institution, because the school I left is unwilling to help me reverse my problem. I'd go on a rant about disablist discrimination, but I won't go there. Word from the wise, DON'T EVER EVER EVER GO TO GRADUATE SCHOOL FULL TIME. IT WILL KILL YOU. Ow! I'm being anally probed!  Just one or two classes a semester is all you need. Any more than that and you're just asking for a death wish. In the meantime I'm just going to give it a rest until I've completely settled into my new-ish home. I will be going back to school soon so I can finish this degree, because I don't like leaving big life goals unfinished.

And I must apologize for my absence lately! I just don't have a lot of time to spend online like I used to. When I opened dA today I had close to 600 messages in my inbox. Jeezus! I think I'm going to make my visits to dA weekly rather than daily now. I'm not closing up shop here; I'm just fitting my dA time in whenever I can. My normal computer time has been replaced by cardio workouts. Hey, I feel great otherwise! I just need to readjust my sense of "moderation" when it comes to computer usage.

To anyone who's wondering, I did not participate in NaNoWriMo this year. Moving, settling into a new job and a new workout routine, and readjusting to living with other people has been occupying my writing time. I've got plenty of writing ideas scribbled down in a notebook somewhere, but I just don't have the time to manifest them into good stories right now. Settling down will take a lot of time to do.

In other news, less computer time means more time to sit down and read those books I've been meaning to read but never got around to because of school or some other obligation. Yay!

Until next time!

I'm not dead.

Just haven't had much to do here, that's all. ANYWAYS, here's a little update on what I've been up to:

I'm taking a break from graduate school for a little while longer. I'll be attempting to apply to other schools for the following Fall semester, but for right now, I need to take my mind off it. After all the crap I've been through battling depression and dealing with trying to fix my academic problems, I need some time away from it. I'm not going to rant about it further, because it's only going to upset me; I've been having a great day today, and I don't want to ruin it.

I spent the past weekend in Boston with a friend from my undergrad years. We did a lot of touristy stuff while I was there, but our options were very limited because the government shutdown had shut down most of the museums in town. Boo. But I think I'd done more walking during the two days I was there than I would in a week. It's too early for leaf-peepers, but I did get to see some color while I was there. I liked Boston, but I don't think I'd want to live there...the public transit up there is unreliable enough to give me the attitude of a wasps' nest...the Underground in London is a lot better, IMO.

National Novel Writing Month is coming up, but I think I may sit it out--I'm not sure yet, but chances are won't be doing it this year. I'll be moving home at the end of November, so I won't have a lot of time to write. I'll be spending that time making arrangements to move, including packing, terminating my rent, utilities and internet, finding a place to store my big furniture, and looking for a job in my hometown. Not fun.

However, I'm not going to let that stop me from celebrating Halloween! I'm seriously thinking of making a Lucario costume this year, since I've been revisiting some childhood nostalgia with Pokemon lately. I've been lurking around DA looking for cosplay ideas, and I've already got most of my costume as it is. :XD: All I need are a pair of pointy ears and a tail. Or I could just do an "inspired-by" outfit like this costume from Pokemon Battle Revolution. I just need to learn how to make ears and sew them onto a headband or hat, and I'll be set! I'll also be getting a little plush Riolu to complete the ensemble (Riolu evolves into Lucario...he's like a cute little puppy).

And speaking of Halloween, I finally gave in and started watching Supernatural. My brother, of all people, recommended that I give it a watch, so I did. I think I understand why it's so popular now.

Also on my list of new things I've been doing, I've started playing Guild Wars 2. I've been hearing a ton of good things about it, so I decided to give it a try too. I don't regret it! The graphics are phenomenal, and the music is beautiful (the amazing Jeremy Soule, Skyrim's soundtrack composer, wrote the music for this game). My brother wants to try it (he likes the Norn, because their ranger class can have a wolf pet--he's got a thing for wolves. I need to get him into Game of Thrones).

Until next time! ;)

I'm going to be out of town visiting my family for most of next week. We're renting a condominium down by the beach, so it's going to be nothing but swimming, surfing, and beach-combing for five days straight. I won't have a lot of time to do much on DA--maybe a favorite or two, but I'm expecting to be away from my computer quite a bit.

In other news, I'm going to see Pacific Rim in an hour. I'll have a review posted soon (if not tonight, then tomorrow if I've got a few minutes to spare). I have to go to work right after...they're having me work the late after-hours shift so we can move merch around. After working the early-early morning shifts doing the exact same thing, it's really nothing new. But since I'm going to be traveling tomorrow, my time is limited, but I'll do my best to squeeze in a short review before I leave for home.

I also have an Ad Astra account for my Star Trek Fanfics: My username is CelticRomulan.

They're not all posted there, but I've decided I'm going to edit and proofread my chapters before I post them.

That's it for today. Carry on!
